Inca Trail to Machu Picchu – 4Day Classic Trek
Embark on a once-in-a-lifetime adventure along the 4-day Classic Inca Trail, crossing cloud forests, Inca stone stairways, and high mountain passes, before entering Machu Picchu through the iconic Sun Gate (Inti Punku) at sunrise. This trek blends natural grandeur, archaeological marvels, and deep cultural immersion—handcrafted for hikers seeking the ultimate Peru experience.
Itinerary
Day 1: Cusco → Piscacucho → Wayllabamba
We pick you up early from your hotel in Cusco and drive to Km 82 (Piscacucho), the official trailhead of the Inca Trail. After meeting your porters and guides, we begin hiking through a gently sloping valley along the Urubamba River, with the snowy peaks of the Andes in the background.
After visiting the Patallacta ruins, an early Incan city with panoramic views, we continue along the scenic trail, enjoying lunch en route. By afternoon, we reach Wayllabamba, our first campsite, where you’ll enjoy a delicious dinner and restful sleep surrounded by pristine nature.
Day 2: Wayllabamba → Dead Woman’s Pass → Pacaymayo
Today is the most challenging, but rewarding. After breakfast, we ascend through lush forest and into the high Andes, reaching Dead Woman’s Pass (Warmiwañusca) at 4,215 m (13,828 ft)—the highest point on the trail.
After a well-earned break and stunning photos, we descend into the Pacaymayo Valley for our second campsite. Enjoy hot tea, snacks, and dinner prepared by our chef, with the peaceful Andes as your backdrop.
Day 3: Pacaymayo → Wiñay Wayna → Aguas Calientes
This is the longest and most beautiful day. We visit multiple archaeological sites, including Runkuracay, Sayacmarca, and Phuyupatamarca (“Town in the Clouds”). The trail passes through misty cloud forests filled with orchids and hummingbirds.
In the afternoon, explore the spectacular Wiñay Wayna, one of the most impressive Inca ruins before Machu Picchu. Then, walk to the Sun Gate (Inti Punku) to glimpse Machu Picchu in the golden evening light.
Afterwards, descend to Aguas Calientes by bus, check in to your hotel, and enjoy a relaxing evening in town.
Day 4: Sunrise at Machu Picchu → Return to Cusco
Wake up early and take the shuttle bus to Machu Picchu. As the sun rises, begin a 2.5-hour guided tour of this breathtaking Wonder of the World. Visit temples, terraces, and sacred spaces including the Temple of the Sun, Sacred Plaza, and Intihuatana.
You’ll have time to explore on your own or, if booked in advance, hike Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain for incredible views.
After lunch (not included), return by train to Ollantaytambo and drive back to your hotel in Cusco in the evening.
