Your adventure begins early with a convenient pick-up from your hotel in Cusco at 04:30. We embark on a scenic drive through the Andean highlands, passing quaint villages and stunning valleys as the first light of day illuminates the mountains. During the journey, your guide will provide an introduction to the day’s adventure and the significance of Humantay Lake in Andean culture.
After approximately two hours of driving, we stop in the charming village of Mollepata for a breakfast. From Mollepata, we continue to Soraypampa, the starting point of the trek and base camp for the Salkantay Trek. Here, you’ll have time to prepare, adjust your gear, before beginning the hike to Humantay Lake.
The hike begins with a gradual ascent through stunning alpine landscapes, offering panoramic views of snow-capped mountains, including the mighty Salkantay Peak. The trail is moderate to challenging due to the altitude, but your guide will ensure a steady pace with rest breaks along the way. For those who prefer, horses are available for rent.
Upon reaching Humantay Lake, you’ll be greeted by its breathtaking turquoise waters framed by towering peaks. The vibrant color of the lake is a result of mineral deposits and glacial meltwater.
